Family Races 2012!!

The 2012 family race will take place on January the 3rd 2012, teams will battle it out in a head to head knockout to become champions of the “jackie Robertson Quaich” which was kindly donated to the rowing club. Teams this year include defending champions Archies Offsprings along with regulars “the aitkens”, “murphia” “Bergs” “Doney Family Fearons” “Mariettas Team” “The jackeens” a newer addition to the family fleet, which comprises of Carmel Daly and her family (who are irish) hense name “the jackeens”. the usual cakes, tea coffee etc will all be on offer in the boatshed and the first race will start at 9am. The course will be the usual looped circuit of the harbour with both boats facing opposite directions on the start line. Everyone is welcome to come along and watch and get a shot in the boats after the main races have took place. happy new year everyone when it comes!!!

Quiz Night Fundraiser

Well done to Team Still Game for winning the quiz night on Saturday the 19th November. Around 60 people attended the event held in the Auld kirk Hall where many took part in games such as paper aeroplane making, pasta tower building, Throwing money at a bottle and around 10 teams entered the quiz. Isabell, Rebecca and Gareth all managed to win £5 from throwing their aeroplanes in the bucket. Whilst Roma Aitken won the Big box of sweets. There was a good mix of people from familiar faces to new faces and a good range of age. A thank you was made on the night by Archie and on behalf of the club i would like to thank all those who organised it again; with a special thanks to Andrew and John for the whole event. Adrian for the Bar and Caroline for her Trophy and picture round. A great night was had by all.

Tay River Row

On a wonderful sunny october morning. Okay the October part is correct! 5 of our keenest rowers made the journey up to Perth to start rowing the Tay River. The plan was to Row from Perth to Newburgh (approx 8 mile) and then continue down to Wormit ( another 12). The crowd of 6 met at the boatshed at 7am and travelled to Perth. The boat was launched at the Sea Cadets slipway just up river from Perth Docks. The current was fast and the tide going out so the row was fast. A good pace was kept up and the occasional song was sung along the way to keep spirits up in the heavy rain. The scenery was very nice as the boats rowed down around 8mph. We arrived at Newburgh and met several people who were thinking of building a St. Ayles skiff after talking for some time and eating the picnic we took the decision to Lift the boat out along with North Berwick and Anstruther who had joined us for the day trip. Portobello soldierd onwards to Wormit and was Met by Andrew who had planned the day out. The day trip was very good and we all hope to do it again hopefully bringing some better weather, and our second boat! Very well done to Andrew for all his organisation of the trip!!

East Lothian and Borders Championships

A group of around 20 made the journey to the fresh water resovoir at Whitadder to compete and socialise with our nearest neighbours. Boats from North Berwick and Dunbar attended along with crews from St. Abbs, Eyemouth and a under 19s team from Duns. Races took the shape of sprints with a buoy turn. Port seton Recorded wins in Mixed open, ladies open, and Mens and Ladies over 35. Our yougest rower Leo Enjoyed his first ever row and Victory as part of our under 19s team along with Maia, Cayryn and Kathryn. North Berwick dominated the mens open beating Port Seton and Dunbar and also recorded a good win in the mixed 50+. The day was topped off with a chance to row in other boats to check out oar systems, footboards and how the other boats differ slightly. All three boats had a different oar system and different oars along with different footboards. A great thanks has to be said to all who organised the event in the short time and all who took part. A great time was had by all.

Royal Bank Funding

Boatie Blest community group has applied for funding to repair the damaged roof of our boatshed. and small refurbishment projects such as making storage shelves. In order to gain this funding we need people to vote for the group. If you believe that the boatie blest group helps in the community please vote. It will make a massive difference!

Tay Row – Whitadder

Andrew Doney has kindly organised a row down the Tay river on Sunday 2nd the boats will leave from Perth and Row out the tay with the ebb tide. The launch will be 9:30am at Perth and will take place at the Perth rail bridge slip. Please double check with Andrew First. The out will be at Wormit sailing club, This used to be a rowing club! There was speculation about them builidng a St. Ayles. If the weather become too bad there is another out position at Newburgh. They are another community interested in building the skiff. We may stop there to try to promote the skiffs before continuing onwards. If you would like to bring your St.Ayles skiff or come along please contact Andrew Doney. ( or secondly anyone at Boatie blest and they will forward to Andrew). Hope for a good weekend of weather.

There is going to be a freshwater champion ship held by the East lothian Clubs on Whitadder resovoir in the Borders. Races will take the form of a 400m sprint, a buoy turn and a 400m sprint back.Categories will be Mens 35+, mens Open, Womens open, Womens 35+, Womens Under 19, Mixed 50+ and Mixed Open. there will be no Formal catering facilities so please bring along your picnic basket. Remeber to bring plenty of water as it’s going to be a glorious weekend of Weather (fingers crossed) . Other info Contact Stuart

Preston Lodge High School Build

Boatie Blest has sponsored a skiff kit for the local high school. Pupils have been hard at work gaining boatbuilding skills and the mould is made and plumbed/levelled. These pictures show the hog being measured up and fitted.

Regatta Season comes to a Close at North Berwick

The season Closed this week with the end of the North Berwick Regatta. As always a very well attended and organised event. Races were held from the harbour round the Craig and back again. The races typically took about 20 mins. There were 6 diffrent clubs which picked up a win. Port Seton and Cockenzie picked up a win in the mens 35+ category whilst Anstruther won two of the ladies categories. Portobello and North Berwick also picked up wins. Achiltibuie from Up north Came down and won the mens open race in the fastest time of the day and the East Lothian Yaght club won the prize for the new clubs. Sundays events had to be cancelled as heavy wind and rain made it to difficult to row. There is a row with North Berwick on the 3rd of September where we plan to row out catch a fish and row back in again. All are welcome to join, we will be meeting at the boatshed at 5pm.

Well Done to all those who organised and took part again in a brilliant regatta.

Ullapool Regatta

Well done to all the rowers and supporters who made the 480 mile round trip to ullapool in the north west highlands to take part in the fun and games. Races were in a trianglular course approximatly 3km Long. The quickest Times were around 20mins to complete the course. 8 other skiffs Attended the event some local from clubs nearby such as North Berwick and Portobello. Pictures will follow when i recieve them. Boatie Blest would like to thank Ulla Syndicate for their hospitality and their well organised regatta. I would also like to thank Jackie; For organising the teams, It is a very difficult job. Also John jo; for beachmastering our own members as there were lots of people to get in the boats at different times.Again thanks to the drivers of the cars for towing the boats. Of course we couldn’t race without you!!
