North Berwick Traditional Boat Muster

September 8, 2010

27th and 28th August 2010

St Ayles skiffs from Anstruther, North Berwick (St. Baldred and the newly built John B),
Boatie Blest(Cockenzie and Port Seton), Achiltibuie (Coigach Lass)and Portobello (Ice Breaker) raced around Craigleith island on Saturday.  The crews rowed a distance of approximately 2 1/2 miles in difficult conditions with a strong force 4 wind.    “Boatie Rows”,  won two of the 4 races.  The mens over 40s and the womens open.  Three of the 4 rowers in the open women crew are under 18 so the youngest rowers of the day.  Stuart Mack the Boatie Blest captain coxed both crews to victory. The other 2 categories were, the over 40s women won by the Anstruther crew and the open Men race won by Achiltibuie.

North Berwick hosted a prize giving get together in the yacht club that evening with much entertainment provided by Boatie Blest members. (and Jasmin from North Berwick) Boatie Blest walked off with 2 of the much sought after prizes, a sponge in a bucket!

We all returned the next day, Sunday, but the weather was against us and we all resorted to rowing machines and delicious baking from the club!  Maia Aitken was the winner with the shortest rowing time over 500m.

All in all a much enjoyed muster organised by Robbie and the North Berwick bunch.
